Preparing for Cosmetic Surgery, with Dr. John Tedesco

When preparing for a surgical procedure, it is important to remember you and your doctor are a team. Each of you is 50% responsible for the final result. The healthier you are going into surgery, the better you take care of yourself, and the more closely you follow your post-operative instructions, the better your final result will be!

The most important first step, if necessary, is to STOP SMOKING. Smoking (or chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes, etc.) damages the blood vessels and the blood supply is the single most important factor in healing! It is also the body’s critical defense mechanism, so what this means, is smoking increases your chances of poor healing and infections. Add to that the increased risk of pneumonia, heart attacks, and other complications, and it is just NOT WORTH IT to get cosmetic surgery while you are smoking. Cosmetic surgery can be a fulfilling way to boost self-confidence and restore youthfulness. It is the perfect motivation to finally quit tobacco and begin leading a happier, healthier life!
